The jelly belly tray
Once upon a time, I listened to a podcast and they rated their top four jelly belly flavours. I thought it sounded like fun, so I pitched buying a jelly belly tray and doing it ourselves.
Hillary mocked me and noted it was a terrible idea.
I ordered one anyway.
When it arrived as part of an Amazon order, she didn't say much but definitely gave me that look. The look that was vaguely disapproving, vaguely curious, and vaguely "I love you and you are ridiculous."
(Not quite this look, but a close relative. It was another one of the expressions that I dedicated my life to teasing out.)
We cracked it open and for the better part of two weeks, the four of us slowly worked our way through that box picking favourites.
We would basically go around the table in order, pick one out, then everyone would try their selection at the same time. There were a couple of spicy ones in there, so I did warn the kids about them. Though both of them didn't believe me the first time they picked a cinnamon. They did the next time.
This is one of those things that made an impact on the kids. Isaac still talks about it and when he brings it up, Paige seems to remember. I'm going to get another box soon to hopefully cement some of those memories. Maybe it will become a thing we do once a year or so.
